The Situation

The operator of a commercial premises in Bradford needed urgent support after a rough sleeper encampment formed at the rear loading area and remained in place for around three weeks. The client needed the area made safe and controlled, with a lawful, on-site response to prevent the encampment from re-establishing.

The affected area was a grass verge at the far end of the loading zone. By the time Strikes attended in April 2025, tents had reportedly been removed earlier that morning, but there were concerns the individuals may return. The site also presented hygiene and safety risks, including discarded belongings, strong odours, and evidence of drug use.

After searching for rough sleeper removal services in Bradford, the client contacted Strikes Property Services Group.

Our Approach

Strikes attended site at approximately 11:30am with two enforcement agents and met with the site manager, who confirmed the encampment had been present for around three weeks and that no rough sleepers had been seen since the tents were removed earlier that day.

Our officers inspected the encampment area and found multiple items left behind, including shopping trolleys, a large storage box containing old clothing, and loose furniture. The area was documented and photographed, and notices were posted in visible positions to make clear that the site was not to be reoccupied.

Around 30 minutes later, a woman arrived and sat within the encampment area. Strikes Property Services Group engaged with her, established that she was looking for the rough sleepers, and advised that she must leave and that the individuals should not return. She left the immediate area. Agents then remained on site to monitor for any further return during the attendance period.

After extended monitoring and liaison with the office, Strikes Property Services Group was stood down later that afternoon.

Outcome

The commercial site was attended, the encampment area was documented, notices were served, and no further rough sleepers returned during the monitoring period. The client was supported with a visible enforcement presence and practical steps to help prevent reoccupation.
